Wellington Election Update

To make quorum for the election this year, we need just 35 more ballots. You can drop your ballot form off in the drop box in front of the office or mail them in. Ballots must be received by Novemeber 14th to be counted in the election. Remember that there is no voting at the Annual Meeting itself. Please call and remind your neighbors and friends to vote!

2008 Board of Directors Election Update

Hello Everyone,

Below is a list of the current candidates for the upcoming election of the Wellington Board of Directors. There are two open positions available on the Board. All owners should have received a ballot in the mail by now. This year, the election is via mail-in ballot only. Mailed in ballots will be counted to ensure there is quorum for the election. Voting will not take place on the night of the annual meeting, so be sure to mail in your ballot on time!

Political Signs in Wellington

As the presidential election draws near there have been increased complaints relating to political signs within the Wellington Community. The Wellington Community Association Design Guidelines and Standards on page 27, specifically bans all political signs. Quoted here…

SIGNS

Only signs advertising a property for sale or lease may be displayed. Such signs must meet applicable municipal code regulations with respect to size, content and removal. Signs may only be placed in the front yard of available properties. Only one sign per property is permitted. Signs may not be placed on the common area, and will be removed and disposed of without prior notification. Leader signs are prohibited.

Political Signs: These are prohibited.

Security Signs: One sign, 12-inch × 12-inch maximum, may be posted on the property…

As recently as 2007 the state of Virginia considered legislature that would remove Home Owner Associations (HOA)s ability to regulate political signs within their borders, however the bill was withdrawn by its sponsor. Additional information on how HOA are able to regulate political signs as related to the first amendment can be found at http://www.vahoalaw.com/covenant-enforcement-political-signs-and-community-associations-in-virginia.html.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
