Residents,

The City of Manassas has accepted the Wellington Board’s request to review an appeal to expand the parking areas within the China Grove and Acer Lane portion of the community. This is very good news!

The review will take place on March 11th at 7:30pm at the City Hall and residents are encouraged to attend and show their support!

A copy of the notice from the City is available here.

Neighborhood Improvement Circle

You’re invited to a Neighborhood Improvement Circle
Sponsored by the City of Manassas

We’re gathering neighbors for circle discussions on revitalizing our neighborhoods in 2009.

The goals are:

  1. To engage neighbors in developing neighborhood improvement projects.
  2. To find common ground on such maintenance issues as graffiti, trash, vacant homes, crime and more.
  3. To lay the groundwork for the 2009 Week of Hope program, which will bring more than 1,000 out-of-town volunteers to the Prince William area in Spring/Summer 2009.

Tim Wilson opened the meeting by asking the General Manager to present her report on the parking situation on China Grove and Acer Lane.  Diane Hartman reported that she has met with the engineers, and they are completing a study which will show the increase in parking for that area.  She also reported that Kim O’Halloran has completed the necessary paperwork for filing the appeal with the City of Manassas and the date of the meeting will be held in Council Chambers, City Hall, 9027 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110 on March 11, 2009.  Diane will mail the notice to the owners of China Grove and Acer.

CITY OF MANASSAS POLICE REPORT:

Tina Laguna gave her report.

There were several burglaries in our area however all of them were due to residents leaving their automobile doors unlocked or doors to their homes unlocked. She advised that everyone keep their doors and windows locked. She said there was a prowler reported on Weeping Willow; however they did not get into the residence home. She also reported that a home that was foreclosed had an open door and police secured the home which was on Gooseberry.

Tim Wilson, President asked for Cindy Brookshire to report on the Neighborhood Improvement Circle which is being sponsored by the City of Manassas.

Cindy gave the dates and times of the meetings, passed out fliers, and gave a general idea of what subjects the meetings would cover.

Tim Wilson, President asked to start interviewing the pool companies that had presented proposals.
JAZZIE POOLS:

Heather from Jazzie gave the proposal and said she was not aware that there was a problem last year.  I think that says it all.

Tim Wilson asked for homeowners to ask their questions while awaiting the next pool company. LaSean Luche of 10215 Magnolia asked for an update on the fence behind her home.  Diane gave her the update and told her we are waiting on the Engineers.

TITAN POOLS:

Kelly Phillips, owner of Titan Pools gave a great presentation. The board was very impressed with the company however she mentioned that the owners only checked on the pools every three weeks which we were concerned about.

CLEAR BLUE POOLS:

Steve Graham, owner of Clear Blue gave a great presentation and answered many questions put to him by the Board of Directors. He was experienced and knowledgeable about pool equipment, safety issues, lifeguards and the general maintenance of the pool.

Julie Byrne asked Diane to check on a home on O’Connell that was not mowed last summer. Diane said she and Jennifer Sibbett, Covenants Coordinator will both visit this property to find out what is going on.

Ed Bissell from Burnet Court complained about his neighbors and he will send Diane some photos of the violators and she will take care of them

Roger Marcy came and complained about trash blowing all over the neighborhood. Tim Wilson mentioned that the same thing happens on Gloxinia and they just all pick it up to keep the community clean.

Duane Kidwell of 9318 Garst said that Diane has really helped on his street with parking situations, dead tags, and with the trash. He has seen the maintenance out in the golf carts many times picking up the trash. He said he called Diane over the weekend however the towing company did not tow the violators who were parked over the sidewalk.  Michelle Samoy said the police will not tow a vehicle that is on private property.

Betty Nelson brought up the trash issue in her circle. She said Diane has been working with her on it and she has reported it to City of Manassas.
