GETTING GREENER! The recycling process is improving in the City of Manassas. The list of items acceptable for recycling for our City of Manassas residents has expanded by a great deal. Here is a link to the newly accepted recyclables which include plastic bags, milk & juice cartons, lids, and all plastic containers #1 through #7 including LIDS, and many other items.
New Recycling Carts
You may have seen the article in the City of Manassas Public Works Newsletter in your utility bill this month about new recycling carts for City residents. In order to contain the larger amount of recyclable materials, new recycling carts are being rolled out to Wellington single family homes in early October. Townhomes will follow and will have an option to use a “cart” or continue using the green open boxes. Townhome residents will get a postcard mailer in October which will enable them to select “cart” or a “bin”. Some townhomes may not have room for the storage of a cart. In this case, it will be important to select the smaller recycling bin.
Recycle Info Night
The Wellington Community is having a RECYCLE INFO NIGHT on Wednesday evening, September 30 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Community Center. Kids are encouraged to participate. Sue Lotkha from City of Manassas Refuse & Recycling will do a fun and educational demo and supply information to residents about City trash collection, the recycling program and the new carts. If possible, please RSVP to sseaberg@wellingtonca.org with the number of participants so that we can ensure that there will be enough space for everyone.
Recycling Information
Recycling materials are collected for single family residents on Wednesday or Thursday depending upon when trash day is scheduled. Townhouses are picked up on Tuesdays. Please pay attention to these guidelines:
- Rinse all food containers! No Bugs.
- May crush plastic bottles, plastic jugs, and aluminum cans
- Plastic grocery bags should be placed inside another plastic bag so they stay together. Types of plastic bags include dry cleaning bags, toilet tissue packaging, vegetable bags, and most plastic wrapping plastic.
More information about all of the kinds of trash which can now be recycled can be found here.
