IMPORTANT UPDATE – Magnolia Grove Paving

Please be advised that owners and residents are prohibited from driving on the new asphalt today, and as long as the cones remain up. The new asphalt is currently too hot to be driven on without sustaining major damage, and some of the striping is still in progress. The newly paved portion of Magnolia Grove will be open at approximately 7am tomorrow, 8/1/2019. Brothers Paving was able to complete about half of the street today, Wednesday 7/31/19, and will finish the project, including the speedbumps tomorrow, 8/1/19 and Friday, 8/2/19, weather permitting.

Courtesy Update – Crosswalk Request

The City of Manassas held their closed transportation meeting 7/22/19, and provided a response to our office regarding a citizen’s request of a crosswalk at the intersection of Hood Rd. and Cloverhill Rd.  The response is that the Transportation Board feels that that intersection is not safe for a crosswalk due to the curvature of the road and the many vehicles parked along it, which would obstruct individuals trying to cross the road from drivers’ view.
They will, however, be adding pedestrian signals on all sides at the intersection of Cloverhill at Wellington. They would like to encourage pedestrians to cross at this intersection where there is no view obstruction and the lights assist in controlling the flow of traffic.
Please note that this updated is provided by Wellington Community Association as a courtesy.  The Association is not directly involved in City of Manassas matters. If you have any questions regarding the City’s decision, please reach out to the City of Manassas Public Works Department.  Thank You!

Fun Facts About Blood Donation:

  • A person who donates blood burns about 650 calories with every pint donated.
  • Blood has four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
  • A single car accident victim can require as many as 100 pints of blood. That means in the days prior to the accident, at least 100 donors took an hour out of their busy lives to donate blood. After blood is donated, it goes through a rigorous testing process and is shipped to area hospitals so the blood is on the shelf ready to be transfused for any patient in need.
  • One in seven people entering the hospital need blood.
  • The average adult has 10 pints of blood in their body. During the blood donation process a person roughly donates 1 pint. Your body will replenish what was taken.
  • Every 2 seconds someone in the US needs blood. Inova Blood Donor Services works to collect, test, and safeguard more than 250  units of blood a day to sure a safe, steady supply for you and your loved ones. There is no substitute for human blood. It can only come from a volunteer blood donors. 38% of population is eligible to donate, but less than 5% actually do.
  • Donation Methods:

§  Whole Blood- eligible every 56 days (products have a shelf life of 42 days)

§  Double Reds- eligible every 112 days (products have a shelf life of 42 days)

§  Platelets- eligible every 14 days (products shelf life is 5 days)

§  Plasma- eligible every 28 days (products have shelf life 1 year)

  • Approximately 70 percent of our blood inventory is collected on a mobile blood drive in the community.
  • Rarest blood type= one we don’t have on the shelf when needed
  • 38% of population is o+, A+ 34%, 9% B+,O- 7 %, A- 6%, AB+ 3%, B- 2%, AB- 1%
  • Mission of Inova Blood Donor Services is to provide safe and adequate blood supply for patients in the diverse community we serve. We have partnered with volunteer blood donors and community organizations since 1965. Our goal is to collect 200 products a day for patients in the DMV.
