$1,000 Grant Awarded to Wellington Community Association

$1,000 Grant Awarded to Wellington Community Association

The City of Manassas and American Disposal Services have awarded a Community Recycling Grant award to the Wellington Community Association. The “Try it” Grant of $1,000 has been awarded to help them increase recycling in their public spaces.

City of Manassas Refuse and Recycling Coordinator, Monica Boehringer said, “We’re happy to help the Wellington Community raise awareness of the importance of recycling through our Community Grant program. Empowering communities to take action and help keep Manassas beautiful.”

The Try it Grant is the first step in the City’s small grants program developed by the City of Manassas. The grant is open to Home Associations that are passionate about improving their community and gaining skills for their own experience and social benefit. HOA members know their particular community and the challenges faced as well as the opportunities that will benefit community members.

“American is excited to partner with the City of Manassas on this groundbreaking community grant, which is the first of its kind,” Kevin Edwards, General Manager for American Disposal Services, said. “By joining forces with the City of Manassas and involving the community we can explore new ways to improve recycling education and awareness.”

Grants are awarded in three stages:

  • Try it – offers small amounts of funding of up to $1,000 for communities to try out ideas to increase recycling. This might mean learning more about what is needed in the area or trying a project on a small scale.
  • Do it – offers grants of up to $5,000 to successful Try it award recipients who feel confident in taking their community project to the next level.
  • Build it – offers grants of up to $15,000 to communities that have successfully launched a Do it project and would like to install or renovate a common area within the community to benefit the health and well-being of community members.

Community Updates

(Repost) Community update following up on the last community board meeting:

Community Center/Pool Security Cameras: We received two of three bids requested for replacement of existing security cameras. The bid selected will replace all current cameras and add a couple more. This was the year replacement of the security system was put into the budget. Replacement was considerably UNDER budget.

Tennis Courts: We received two bids after seeking three for a period of roughly one month. The board approved the resurfacing of the court off Acer and repairs to the tennis court at the community center. This includes new netting as well.

Electrical Work: We are scheduling work to bring power to all monument areas off Hastings rd. They will be illuminated as the Wellington rd side is.

Water Infiltration at the Lifeguard Office: We received three of three bids requested to stop the flooding of the guard shack after heavy rains. This work is being scheduled.

Please keep on eye on the calendar for the next board meeting. This will be largely devoted to parking permits to restrict parking in the townhome areas to Wellington residents and guests only.

2018 Annual Inspections

Spring has almost sprung in Wellington and that means it’s time for annual property inspections.  Now’s the time to take a look around the outside the house to see what might need a little TLC.   A quick drive through the neighborhood reveals that most houses need a good power washing to remove that unsightly mold and mildew from the siding, faded shutters and doors need a fresh coat of paint and some landscaping could use a refresh.  Keeping our homes well maintained improves our property values and who doesn’t want the maximum value for our biggest asset!

Take a glance through the Design Standards on the website.

Remember changes from the original color, style or design requires an approval from the ARC who meets the first Tuesday of every month.

Completed applications are due into the office 7 days prior to the meeting.
